Shrewsbury Youth & Family Services provided a new summer program for girls: “Full STEAM Ahead.” Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) were used in a fun and interactive way to help build confidence and self-esteem.
Many girls shy away from S.T.E.A.M for lack of confidence. Dr. Joseph Burdo, Assistant Professor of Practice in the Biology Department at Boston College, and the SYFS summer program counselors came together to create an environment that fostered excitement for STEAM.
Full STEAM Ahead was a success! Thank you, Professor Joe, for showing the girls how fascinating and fun science, math, engineering, and technology can be. In one week they made several projects including a working robotic arm.
