The Coghlin Youth Development Programs
SYFS operates unique, specialized programming and services for youth throughout the year. Many of these programs are designed to build skills, provide opportunities for personal growth, and foster healthy relationships.
You Go, Girl! Afterschool (Middle School)
Welcome to You Go, Girl!, one of Shrewsbury Youth and Family Services most popular programs. This program focuses on the concerns, hopes, dreams and goals of middle school girls by discussing the important changes they are experiencing during this critical time in their lives. They will learn how to strengthen their self-confidence, manage emotions, and communicate better with friends and family members. There will be plenty of practice in decision making and problem solving too! They will learn how being healthy and drug-free will help them become the person they are meant to be. We have included ways to stay drug-free and help others stay drug-free. Finally, they will practice setting goals and thinking about ways to make the most of themselves!
This program will run for three 8-week sessions on Tuesdays from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM.
Session 1: October 2 – November 20, 2018
Session 2: January 8 – March 5, 2019
Session 3: March 26 – May 21, 2019
Cost: $100.00 per session
*Excludes school vacation weeks
You Go Girl! Vacations (Fourth Grade)
You Go, Girl! Vacation is a program that prepares 4th grade girls for the changes and challenges ahead of them in middle school. The transition to middle school and into adolescence is a dramatic one. Girls have lots on their minds: fear of losing friends and making new ones, navigating peer pressure and bullying, worrying about fitting in and new academic pressures. At You Go Girl! girls will learn how to strengthen their self-confidence, identify and manage emotions, and communicate better with family and friends. They will practice decision making skills, how to cope with difficult situations, and problem solving. They will learn how empowering one another and making healthy choices will help them to reach their highest potential!

Time to get off the devices and learn to connect! Transitioning from Elementary School to Middle School can be both exciting and scary….and our kids have feelings about it too! SYFS would like to invite transitioning students that are entering 5th, 6th and 7th grades to join us for a series of workshops dedicated to help prepare for the changes and challenges ahead. We will focus on the social and emotional aspects of this transition, whether this is your child’s first year of transition or they have been in middle school for a year or two. Both groups of student’s experiences will help facilitate conversations around expected fears, concerns and worries, as well as developing and sharpening tools for problem solving and conflict resolution.
Friday workshops will take place at SYFS from 8:30 am until 2:30 pm on 6/29, 7/13, 7/20, & 7/27. We ask that kids bring lunch and snacks for the day. The cost of each workshop will be $45.00 per person.
